Back-to-School 2014!

I just sent MY BABAY off on the bus.  This is the first year that all four of my daughters are in school full time.  I have waited for this day for a very long time.  A very long time.  Go ahead.  Judge me.  Raise your eyebrow.  Blog a rebuttal post. I’m cool with that.  Like that.  I just did a  freedom waltz out the school door and down the cement steps. I couldn’t help it. If I would have had my shit together, I would have gathered the teary-eyed moms out in the parking lot and popped a bottle of bubbly. They needed it to feel happy, and I needed it to celebrate.

Gone are the days of being a stay-at-home-mom with babies and toddlers. Gone are the days of working from home navigating photography edits and client meetings around naptime and feedings and park visits.  Gone are the days of shooting a wedding 36 weeks into pregnancy. Don’t get me wrong. I was lucky to be a stay-at-home-mom for all those years. Lucky to have been able to start my business working from home.  Lucky to be where I am.  Super lucky. However, I have reached a milestone, peeps, and I can’t wait to embrace it.  All of it. I feel the need to throw a party.  To celebrate.

When I first officially started my photography business in 2010, my goal was to have everything up and running as a full time business by the time my youngest started Kindergarten.  Since I am a self-taught photographer and entrepreneur, I had (and still have) so much learning to do.  Learning about STARTING and GROWING a business, learning about WORKFLOW and SYSTEMS, learning about photography itself, learning about Photoshop and editing, learning about SALES and MARKETING and SOCIAL NETWORKING.  And I’ve done it!!

Now I know, I’m not the only one out there who has accomplished so much amidst the challenges of having and raising babies and being a wife and a mom and kid cab driver.  There is a tribe of us out there getting up and doing it every single day.  No matter the weather or how much we would rather pull the covers over our head and shut out responsibility, we pull it together and make it happen not only by surviving but actually THRIVING through it all.  Every day we are finding success and finding a way to be true to ourselves, our passions and those we love.  I couldn’t be more excited to go from here, to continue learning and growing.

So, raise a glass with me…not only to me, but to all of us moms out there getting up and doing it every.single.day. YOU (we) soo deserve this!! As always, I would love to hear from you. Leave me a comment and tell me how your first week of school went….I can’t wait to hear all about it.

  1. I never thought I would agree with you 😀. But life takes you down all sorts of paths and this new one of girls in school, pretty close to running a store on my own, handling issues, customers etc…. It’s all good. I don’t want to go back to a SAHM. And I love being a kid can driver too! Cheers to us!🍻
